Handblown Glass Marble

This is a silver fumed “psytoplasm” marble with amber-purple, steel wool and ruby red peacock backing (I actually take silver coin, and heat it until it “sprays” fume onto a rod, which is than twisted and folded into the shape of a marble). No two marbles are ever the same when psytoplasm’d as it is a truly random technique. It’s about 3/4″ to 1″ size range.

A Dangerously Curious Eye—The Edge of San Francisco limited edition book by Barry Shapiro

Far from the bridges and cable cars, hidden away behind the famous hills, there is another San Francisco Bay Area that most people never see: San Francisco’s Hunter’s Point and Fillmore District, West Oakland and Richmond’s Iron Triangle. In the 1970’s, these places on the edges of this great American metropolis, offered Barry Shapiro an alternate reality where he pointed his lens.

These images record an incredible slice of everyday urban life without any hint of his even being there. Barry captured what Henri Cartier-Bresson called “the decisive moment” over and over with a natural ability that only the best photographers have.

Portraits From the Belly of the Whale limited edition book by Michael Garlington

An arresting book of B&W fine art photographs created by critically acclaimed Northern California photographer Michael Garlington.

Many of these photographs come from his numerous cross-country excursions in what he calls “photo car”, literally a Volkswagen covered with his photographs. On these trips, Michael shoots photographs of the people and places that speak to him. Individuals who may seem like regular people – from a contortionist to a fast food worker, from the disabled to a young patriot, this work is about ordinary Americans leading ordinary lives, yet there is something awry with these ordinary people.

Inside his work is a deeply felt affection for humanity in all its permutations and expressions, with a sublime view into the true horror and triviality of these lives.

The resulting body of work offers a critical, offbeat, and humorous view of the United States. Closer to home, Michael also translates his dreams -using friends and family as his models- into photographs that come from a dark, yet humorous space inside his creative soul.

This limited edition book comes in a custom slipcase with a signature page, edition number (limited to 200 numbered copies), and a slilver gelatin print signed and numbered by Micael Garlington.
